Utiel-Requena is a remarkable wine region situated in the Valencian Community (Spain). Utiel and Requena, the heart of the region, are small historical towns surrounded by vineyards. Laying over 700 meters above the sea and 70 km away from the Mediterranean coast it has excellent conditions for wine making.
Archeological findings prove that wine production started here back to the 7th century BC. Which makes the region the oldest DO (Denominación de Origen) in Spain.
The region is the birthplace for the legendary Bobal grape variety, while the winemakers achieve great results with other varieties as well.
Chozas Carrascal is a single-estate winery which respects traditions and keeps pace with the times. While promoting Bobal as main local grape variety the winemakers keep experimenting with other grapes. In total 11 grape varieties are cultivated here: Chardonnay, Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc, Bobal, Monastrell, Garnacha Tinta, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot.
The winemakers pay attention to the environment, their production has been certified as eco-friendly.
The Chozas Carrascal wines regularly receive over 90 points from the leading national wine rating Guía Peñín.
